
Myrica pensylvanica
-The Bayberry belongs to the Kingdom Plantae and the Phylum Porifera. -The Bayberry is in the Family Myricaceae. -It ranges from Maritime provinces to Lousiana, and prefers dry or wet sterile soil near the coast. -The Bayberry reproduces by the grouping of plants and needs at least one male plant to facilitate pollination of female plants and subseqeunt fruit set. - It usually grows 1 1/2 to 6 feet and the leaves are 4 inches long. -The leaves are slightly toothed near the tip. -The fruits are covered with a waxy substance which is used to make Bayberry candles, soaps and sealing wax. |
