Morone saxatilis

-The Striped Bass is in the Kingdom Animalia and the Phylum Chordata.
-The Striped Bass can be found inshore over various bottoms; some permanently in fresh water.
- The area range that they live in is from The Atlantic Ocean and associated rivers from St.Lawerence River to St. John, Florida.
- They usually eat shrimp and anchovies during the summer and fall and a varitey of small fishes during the winter.
-They are believed to spawn only in fresh water.
-The female matures at age five sand the male matures at age two.
-A five pound fish may spawn as many as 25,000 eggs in one season; while a twelve pounder will spawn 1,250,000 eggs. A seventy-five pound striper produces ten million eggs.
- One female is accompanied by several males during the actual spawning act. Running water is necessary to keep eggs in motion until hatching.
- Fifty miles or more of stream is required for successful hatches.
-The Striped Bass is the largest member of the sea bass family.
